Bruce Boje, long-time pickleballer and previous Treasurer of our Club, passed away this month. As one of our most active and dedicated volunteers and a former Board member, Bruce was responsible for developing our “modern day” membership system that has enabled the Club to manage its rapid growth of people and dues. He spent hundreds of hours on membership, financial, and tournament management.
Along with his wife Joyce and good friend Lee Carlson, Bruce got pickleball started at Chanhassen Rec Center, and spent many years teaching pickleball to beginners there. His kindness and patience also were evident through his work as a volunteer pickleball instructor for Magnified Abilities, a special needs group for young adults. As patient as he was as a teacher, Bruce also could turn on the juice. He was a two-time gold medal winner in the 3.0 division of the Club’s Miracle Ear tournaments.
While most of us knew Bruce as an avid pickleball player, he was also a Master level bridge player, an ardent biker, a wonderful father to his two sons, and a supportive, loving husband to Joyce. Our dear friend and fellow pickleballer Bruce Boje will truly be missed. There will be a memorial service on Monday, December 9th, 11:00 am, at Mount Olivet Church in Minneapolis, with interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. More information can be found at Washburn McCreavy.
